India’s tally of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus exceeded 10 lakh on Thursday with Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh among other states reporting spikes in the number of new cases.
As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s COVID bulletin on the morning of July 16, India had 9,68,876 confirmed cases. This figure was inclusive of 3,31,146 active cases and 6,12,815 recoveries along with 24,915 casualties. Maharashtra leads with the most number of confirmed cases followed by Tamil Nadu and Delhi.
Data indicates that the Health Departments of various state governments collectively recorded more than a lakh new cases in the last four days, pushing India’s tally of confirmed Covid-19 cases beyond the 10-lakh mark.
Maharashtra reported 8641 new cases on Thursday. With this development, the state now has 2,84,281 confirmed cases. Mumbai accounts for 23,694 cases on July 16.
The state with the second-highest number of confirmed cases in India, Tamil Nadu reported a spike of 4549 in its tally of confirmed cases. Now, there are 46,714 active cases in the state.
Uttar Pradesh government’s Health Department also informed reporters that it detected 2061 new cases across the state in the last 24 hours. The state’s tally of confirmed cases now stands at 43,444. This figure is inclusive of 15,723 active cases to date.
Similarly, the state of Andhra Pradesh reported 2593 new cases, West Bengal 1690 fresh cases and Delhi another 1652 cases on Thursday. Gujarat accounted for 919 fresh cases, Bihar another 1385 cases, and Jammu and Kashmir 493 new cases. Telangana also reported 1676 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 on July 16.
Karnataka also accounted for a massive spike in new cases with 4169 new cases.
